TransCanada Corporation officials say the Energy East Pipeline project is the largest the company has ever undertaken.
The Calgary-based pipeline company today announced it is moving forward with a proposal to pipe oilsands crude to refineries and terminals on the east coast.
President and CEO Russ Girling told a news conference this morning the 12-billion dollar project will create thousands of jobs and will help Canada be in charge of its own destiny.
Company officials say that while environmental concerns are top of mind for many much of the pipeline is already in place as the plan calls to reverse an existing natural gas line to Montreal.
Within hours of TransCanada's announcement, Irving Oil announced plans for a 300 million dollar oil export terminal in Saint John New Brunswick.
